Our parish has a rich history that began with a group of thirteen dedicated immigrant families from Kamyanna in the Sandetsky district of Galicia. Together, they formed a community united by faith and tradition.
In its early days, the parish held services in a rented Lutheran Chapel, with clergy traveling from nearby towns to lead the congregation. Among them were Fr. Miron Wolkay from Sheppton, PA, Fr. Elias Klapotovsky from Old Forge, and Fr. Alexander Nemolovsky from Reading.
In 1901, our community took a significant step forward by purchasing 1 1/2 acres of land for a cemetery, which was blessed and dedicated by the Most Reverend Tikhon, Archbishop of North America and the Aleutians, who would later be canonized as St. Tikhon, Patriarch of Moscow and Enlightener of North America.
The parish house and adjacent land were purchased in 1906, laying the groundwork for the construction of our beloved Church. With the architectural guidance of Auksenty Chylack and the artistic talents of Eugene Gogetz, our Church took shape, with its beautiful icons written by Joseph Warchol.
By 1915, our parish had grown to include 123 members, and the community flourished with the establishment of a Church Choir, Balalaika Orchestra, Dramatic Club, Brotherhoods, and the Women’s Altar Society.
On January 14, 1939, during Vespers, our Church suffered a devastating fire. However, through the grace of God and the support of insurance funds, repairs were made, and the Church continued to stand as a beacon of faith.
Throughout the years, our Church, parish house, and cemetery have been lovingly maintained and improved by the tireless efforts of parish organizations and devoted members. We have been blessed with many dedicated clergy who have faithfully served and guided our community.
Today, our parish remains a place of worship, fellowship, and tradition, where we welcome all to join us in faith and prayer.
